Take Stock in Children of Brevard Scholarships Create New Opportunities for Graduates

Forty-one graduating Take Stock in Children of Brevard scholars received exciting news during the program’s annual Mentor Appreciation Luau on June 4. The organization announced a scholarship enhancement that will expand eligible Florida Prepaid scholarship benefits from 60 credit hours to 120 credit hours at participating Florida colleges and universities.

The announcement was shared during a special evening celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 and recognizing the volunteer mentors who have helped guide students throughout their educational journeys.

Take Stock in Children of Brevard, a program of Brevard Schools Foundation, combines volunteer mentoring, college readiness support, and scholarship opportunities to help students from income-qualified households achieve postsecondary success. The Class of 2026 includes 41 scholars representing 17 high schools throughout Brevard County.

“This is a transformative opportunity for our students and their families,” said Janice Kershaw, President and CEO of Brevard Schools Foundation. “By doubling eligible scholarship benefits from 60 credit hours to 120 credit hours, we are helping remove financial barriers and opening additional pathways for students to pursue their educational and career goals.”

The scholarship enhancement reflects the shared commitment of Take Stock in Children of Brevard, Brevard Schools Foundation, and Florida Prepaid Foundation to expanding educational opportunity and helping students achieve their college and career aspirations.

The evening also highlighted the important role mentors play in helping students succeed. Volunteer mentors meet regularly with students, offering encouragement, accountability, and support as they navigate high school and prepare for life after graduation.

Mentors Help Students Reach Their Goals

“Our mentors invest their time encouraging students to believe in their potential and persevere through life challenges,” said Jim Clamons, Chair of the Take Stock in Children Leadership Council. “This scholarship enhancement builds on that investment and provides additional opportunity for our students as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys.”

In addition to recognizing graduating scholars, Take Stock in Children of Brevard honored outstanding mentors through Legacy Awards, Impact Awards, Most Mentor Sessions, and Rookie Mentor of the Year honors.

The Class of 2026 graduates during the 30th anniversary year of the statewide Take Stock in Children program, which has helped thousands of Florida students achieve educational success through mentoring, college readiness support, and scholarships.
