EAU GALLIE, FL (April 23, 2015) – Fifty deserving high school seniors received college scholarships for successfully completing the requirements of the Take Stock in Children Scholarship & Mentoring program. Seven of the graduates have been awarded a 4 – semester housing scholarship through the state Take Stock In Children office. Also honored during the ceremony, were two Eastern Florida State College graduates. These students utilized their Take Stock scholarships to obtain their AA and AS degree. A record breaking 84 Brevard public school students were also inducted into the program. TSIC scholars pledge to attend school, meet regularly with their mentor, maintain academic standards, and remain drug and crime free. Local sponsors to help make this dream a reality for these deserving students are Balda Family Foundation, Highland Mint, Jill Mimbs Allstate, Deffebach Family, Margaret Heins Foundation, Galesi Family Foundation, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Bison Financial Group and many supporters of the Reach For The Stars Gala.
The Brevard County Take Stock in Children program boasts a total of over 600 program graduates since its inception in 1996, with a 100% high school graduation rate. Of the 2015 graduating class, 96% have applied and been accepted into a Florida university or state college. Take Stock In Children and Eastern Florida State College have built a strong partnership to support students as they transition to college by providing advisors and support services at each campus. The graduating seniors will continue to receive mentoring and college retention support upon graduation.
