Supply Zone for Teachers Becomes a Full Affiliate Member of the Kids in Need Foundation
Viera, FL – January 3, 2018 – The Kids In Need Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing free school supplies to economically disadvantaged school children and under-funded teachers, announced today it has elevated two of its Junior Affiliate teacher free stores to Full Affiliate status, including the Supply Zone for Teachers, a program of the Brevard Schools Foundation. Full Affiliates being added to the Kids In Need Foundation National Network of Resource Centers are located in Cocoa, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The addition of Supply Zone for Teachers, a program of the Brevard Schools Foundation, in Cocoa, and The Pencil Box in Tulsa, brings the total number of affiliates in the Kids In Need Foundation National Network to 41 centers. Inclusion in the network is by evaluation only and is based on a center’s stability and efficiency, among other criteria.
“Supply Zone for Teachers and The Pencil Box are two centers making an impact in their communities,” said Dave Smith, executive director of the Kids In Need Foundation. “Their service models closely align with that originally designed by Kids In Need, and we are proud to be able to help them serve students most in need.”
Affiliates of the Kids In Need National Network serve schools in their local areas where high percentages of students are enrolled in the federal free and reduced lunch program. Although typically located in warehouses or similar environments, the facilities are set up the same as a retail store where any teacher would go to buy supplies for their students or classrooms. The difference is that there is no charge for any of the school supplies or teaching aides taken from the shelves.
As an affiliate, the Supply Zone for Teachers is eligible to receive school supplies donated to the Kids In Need Foundation by manufacturers and retailers for redistribution to high need students, teachers, and schools. Since the organization’s founding in 1995, Kids In Need has distributed more than $900 million dollars worth of school supplies to the centers in the Network. Combined with the product donated to the individual centers locally, the Network provides school and classroom supplies to 5.4 million students and nearly 200,000 teachers annually.
