BREVARD COUNTY, FL – The Brevard Schools Foundation’s Supply Zone for Teachers will receive a donation of 500 new books, valued at $5,400, from Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Pi Beta Phi representatives will distribute these books to teachers on Wednesday, March 2nd at a special Supply Zone event.
Each year, Pi Beta Phi undertakes various initiatives to promote education and literacy. This is the second year the sorority’s Brevard County Alumnae Club named the Supply Zone as the recipient of a First Book grant. Their support will once again help the Supply Zone get books into the hands of students from low-income households.
“Reading plays such an important role in a child’s development,” said Elizabeth Schreiber, Supply Zone Manager. “These women are helping our community grow stronger by providing books to the children who need it most.”
Working with Pi Beta Phi, the Supply Zone will distribute the books and other school supplies at a special event called Shop, Read and Succeed. Selected literacy specialists from fifty of Brevard’s high-poverty schools will be invited to the Supply Zone on National Read Across America Day to receive the free supplies. Teacher attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with members of local support organizations to learn about free literacy services in the community.
