The Brevard Schools Foundation (BSF) Supply Zone for Teachers unveiled a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) section that will provide classroom materials to the 30 highest-poverty public schools in Brevard County. STEM materials include items that encourage hands-on experimentation, creative problem solving and project-based learning in these critical areas.  The new STEM Section is supported by a grant from Northrop Grumman.

“STEM education is vital to ensure that we are developing the next generation of innovators,” said Janice Kershaw, CEO/President of Brevard Schools Foundation. “STEM skills prepare students for high-demand tech jobs and are key talents needed in our ever-changing and complex world.”

“Low income students are at a greater disadvantage in succeeding in STEM subjects because they do not always have access to the resources they need, in the classroom or at home, to develop in the core areas,” added Kershaw. “With the help and generosity of Northrop Grumman, we will now be able to fill this gap at the schools who need it the most.”

A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, February 26 and marked the official opening of this new section.

Donations of the most needed items such as rulers, calculators, protractors, safety glasses, timers, tape measures and magnifying glasses are needed to keep the STEM Section stocked all year.
