Shop from the Heart: Giving Much Needed Supplies to Local Homeless Students
BREVARD COUNTY, FL – For many students, the approaching summer vacation is a cause for excitement. For others, however, it is a source of anxiety. More than 2,200 identified homeless students were enrolled in Brevard Public Schools last year. When the summer vacation begins, many of these children will no longer have access to regular meals, clothing, hygiene products, and summer learning opportunities.
In response to this issue, the Supply Zone for Teachers will host Shop from the Heart, a special giveaway event for teachers serving as their school’s Homeless Student Liaisons. This event will help ensure that local homeless students have the supplies they need over the coming months. The teacher liaisons will have access to free school supplies, books, food, clothing, hygiene items, and informational resources. They will then distribute these items to the homeless students at their schools.
The free shopping event will be held from 2:30 pm until 6:30 pm at the Supply Zone for Teachers on Wednesday, May 20th. In addition to receiving free supplies, liaisons will also have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and meet with representatives from local support organizations including Students at Risk, Crosswinds Youth Services, Brevard Health Alliance, Florida KidCare, and Brevard Adult and Community Education.
Shop from the Heart has been made possible by the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and members of the community. Their financial and in-kind donations have enabled the Supply Zone to give away all supplies for free. The Supply Zone serves teachers and students all year long, so donations are always needed.

The Supply Zone for Teachers, a service of the Brevard Schools Foundation, is an educational resource center that distributes free school supplies to teachers and students at schools with high poverty levels. In order to serve the educational and creative needs of children in Brevard Public Schools, the Supply Zone collects donated supplies from sponsoring companies, organizations and individuals, as well as accepts monetary donations to purchase supplies at a fraction of the retail prices. The Supply Zone then makes these supplies available to the teachers at no cost. The facility is centrally located at Clearlake Education Center in Cocoa, Florida and is open throughout the school year. For more information call 321.617.7727 or 321.633.3660 ext. 301.
