Employees from McGladrey LLP, the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market from the Brevard County office recently raised $10,000 to benefit Brevard Schools Foundation through a program called Birdies Fore Love, run by the Davis Love Foundation. With McGladrey employees as advocates for the program, Birdies Fore Love raises funds to non-profit charities in the local community.
In addition, local McGladrey leader, Terri Burdine, Tax Partner, together with family, friends, and other supporters raised an additional $50,000 to the same charity through various fundraising by the “Live and Love like Ty” Facebook page, created by Terri’s sister and brother-in-law. Terri’s Nephew, Ty Clements, had attended Mila Elementary school in Brevard County as a special needs child with autism. Ty, at only age 9, passed away in March of 2014. This facebook page was dedicated to his remembrance, but also a community to fundraise to build a brand new playground for Mila Elementary that special needs kids of the school can safely and more easily play on.
Together the $10,000 through the Birdies Fore Love McGladrey initiated Brevard Schools Foundation donation and the $50,000 raised in dedication to Ty, went directly to benefit Mila Elementary school in Brevard County for the cost of the new playground. It is estimated to be built by the summer of 2015.
The Brevard Schools Foundation is a direct-support non-profit organization which matches community resources with the needs of schools. The $10,000 check presented by McGladrey was used to pursue a new playground for the children.
Last year, McGladrey raised more than $430,000 to local charities across the U.S. through Birdies Fore Love, had over 2,400 participants during their Volunteer Day, and donated more than 200 company iPads to Teach for America.
