Brevard County, FL – October 2025 — Brevard Schools Foundation has been awarded $165,576.79 through the State of Florida’s School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program, administered by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations.

This funding—matched dollar-for-dollar by local donations—supports programs that connect classroom learning to real-world experiences and provide essential resources for teachers across Brevard Public Schools.

Expanding Opportunities for Students and Teachers

Through this year’s Matching Grant, Brevard Schools Foundation will continue advancing educational excellence through two key initiatives:

  • Discovering Brevard Study Trips – 5th, 6th, and 8th grade students explore Kennedy Space Center, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, and the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex. These experiences enhance classroom learning, inspire curiosity, and ensure equitable access for Title I students.

  • Teacher Quality Initiatives – Programs like Bright Ideas Classroom Grants, the Teacher Leadership Council Fellowship, Teacher of the Year events, and the Supply Zone for Teachers provide professional growth, leadership opportunities, and free classroom supplies to empower Brevard educators.

“This grant exemplifies the power of collaboration between state leadership, local donors, and education foundations,” said Janice Kershaw, President/CEO of Brevard Schools Foundation. “Working together, we can innovate learning experiences and ensure teachers and students have the resources to succeed.”

The Impact in Our Schools

Teachers across Brevard see firsthand how the Matching Grant makes a difference in their classrooms.

“Our students benefit tremendously from the Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s Children’s Concert,” shared Ryan Ross, 2024-25 Music Specialist at Apollo Elementary School. “The concert guide reinforces our music standards in a dynamic way, and students are always thrilled to recognize pieces they studied in class performed live on stage.”

“The Supply Zone has been an invaluable resource for our students,” said Heather Dora-Kelly, Teacher at Mims Elementary School. “Students are so excited to receive new notebooks, pencils, and crayons—and they feel confident knowing we always have what they need. It ensures every child can focus on learning instead of worrying about school supplies.”

About the Matching Grant Program

For more than 20 years, the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program has provided state matching funds as an incentive for local education foundations to raise private contributions. Since its inception, more than $173 million in combined state and private funds has supported programs across Florida that encourage STEM education, career readiness, literacy, classroom innovation, and student resiliency.

During the past year alone, the program saw an investment total of $17.5 million statewide, with $7 million in state allocation matched by more than $10 million in private-sector contributions. Sixty school district education foundations participated, funding 109 projects that served 99% of Florida’s K–12 students.
