BREVARD COUNTY, FL – Brevard Schools Foundation is partnering with Lite Rock 99.3 (LiteRock993.com) to collect school supplies for children facing economic hardships during the month of August. All su
pplies collected will be distributed to students and teachers in high-poverty schools in Brevard County, Florida.
The public is invited to participate by donating supplies at designated drop-off locations throughout Brevard County during the month of August. Cash donations are also requested so items not received during the drive may be purchased. All financial donations are doubled through a matching funds grant provided by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and the State of Florida through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.
“With inflation rising, food and gas prices taking a hike, local families are struggling to meet basic needs,” said Pamela Lyons, Supply Zone Program Manager. “Last year, the percentage of students who came from low-income households increased dramatically, and countless children were showing up to school without even the most basic supplies. How can we expect these kids to perform at the same level as their peers when they don’t have access to items like pencils and paper?”
To relieve this issue, the Supply Zone held its 20th free Back to School giveaway, the Back-to-School Blast-Off, on Saturday, July 30th. At this event, over 1,000 students facing economic hardships received free backpacks, school supplies, books, and other necessities. Following the giveaway, the Supply Zone continues to host free supply distributions throughout the year, specifically targeting teachers at high-poverty public schools. The teachers can then take these items back to their classrooms to dispense as needed to underprivileged students.
These giveaways would not be possible without the support of the community, which is why the Supply Zone encourages individuals to participate in the School Supply Drive. Donations can be dropped off at select Cricket Wireless, RE/MAX Elite, Space Coast Credit Union, Blue Sky Insurance, Waterman Real Estate locations, and many other sites.
