Shop, Read and Succeed
In Brevard County, as many as 44% of students in grades 7-11 may be considered below reading level this year. With literacy playing such a key role in academic success, future employment, and good health, it has become more important than ever for Brevard students to develop their reading skills. Thanks to the generosity of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, and other organizations, we can now give these children the tools they need to become strong readers.
The Supply Zone for Teachers will kick off School Library Month by hosting Shop, Read and Succeed, a free giveaway event that ensures adequate literacy resources reach low-income students. This special event will target literacy professionals from fifty of Brevard’s highest poverty schools to receive free books and school supplies. Teachers will also have the opportunity to meet with members of local support organizations to learn about free literacy services in the community.
Shop, Read and Succeed will be held on Thursday, April 6th from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. To learn more, please contact the Supply Zone at 321-633-3660, ext. 301.
