Supple Zone For Teachers LogoThe Brevard Schools Foundation’s Supply Zone for Teachers and BPS students in transition program teamed up last month to provide free supplies to homeless students.

More than 2,200 known homeless students are enrolled in BPS. This winter, these children and their families will struggle to purchase basic necessities for the upcoming spring semester. In response to this issue, the Supply Zone in the Clearlake Educational Facility in Cocoa, hosted Shop from the Heart, a special giveaway event for teachers serving as their school’s homeless student liaisons.

This event helped ensure that local homeless students have access to the tools they need to succeed in school. The teacher liaisons were given free school supplies, books, warm clothing, hygiene
products, meal kits, and student services literature. The teachers then distributed these items to the homeless students at their schools.

In addition to receiving free supplies, teachers also had the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and discuss new information. The event was made possible by the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and members of the community including Space Coast Area Realtors Association, Travis Park Recreation Center, Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront Hotel, Wells Fargo, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Target, United Space Alliance, Bright House Networks, Macy’s, Northrop Grumman, JACOBS Technology, Viera Woman’s Club, Viera Lions Club, and Community Credit Union.
