BREVARD COUNTY, FLA. – Brevard Public Schools, Delaware North/KSC and the KSC Education Foundation have partnered to provide real world experiences for fifth graders from Apollo Elementary in a pilot program focused on STEAM and career readiness with embedded activities occurring throughout the Visitor Complex. Students will attend Space School for 16 days utilizing various venues of the Visitor Complex and Brevard Public Schools will provide the teacher and transportation from the school to the site.
“Classroom time is minimized, the focus is on having students experience their learning of new concepts that are based on the Florida state standards in ELA, math, reading and social studies,” says Adrian Laffitte, executive director of the Kennedy Space Center Education Foundation.
As part of the experience, students will engage in topics based on the history and literature surrounding space exploration and will include segments in the rocket garden, Saturn V, Atlantis, team building through the Astronaut Hall of Fame, and Mission Mars: Exploring Space, in addition students will have opportunities to interact with astronauts and the many high tech exhibits found at the Visitor Center. Media day will be on January 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
