Viera, FL: A true visionary and inspired leader within our education community, Jack Kelley, passed away earlier this month. To honor his legacy, Community Credit Union has contributed an additional $2,500 to the endowment fund for the scholarship established in his name with the Brevard Schools Foundation.

Henry L. “Jack” Kelley was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia and in 1955 started his career as a teacher in Cobb County, Georgia. He arrived in Brevard County in 1958 and became a teacher in the Brevard County Public School system, ultimately serving in the roles of Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. Among other advanced degrees, he held a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Florida. After leaving the Brevard school system, he continued to serve the educational community as a Director for the East Central Florida Management Training Institute, which provided professional development for those in leadership roles in public education.

Mr. Kelley began his service to Community Credit Union when he joined the Credit Committee of what was then known as Brevard County Teacher’s Credit Union. He became Treasurer of the Board of Directors in 1964. In 1983, he was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the then-named Community Educators Credit Union, a position he held for 33 years. During his time on the Board, he undertook educational efforts that would increase his expertise in credit union operations and governance. His certifications include Credit Union Director from the Credit Union Executives Society and Certificate of Achievement for completion of the National Chairman Training from the National Center for Credit Unions.

His spirit of volunteerism and community service was not limited to his work with the credit union. Additional community service has included board service for the Rockledge Kiwanis Club and Salvation Army, and membership in the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the Brevard Library Foundation. His legacy embodies “service” in the truest sense of the word. Mr. Kelley was a true leader. His actions and personal example inspired great loyalty and respect through his commitment to the community.

For anyone who would like to honor his legacy by contributing to his memorial scholarship, funds may be donated to Brevard Schools Foundation at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way Viera, FL 32940 with “Jack Kelley Scholarship” noted, or via the website www.brevardschoolsfoundation.org.
