Harris Corporation To Be Recognized As Giving Tops $1 Million To Schools Foundation

VIERA, FLA. ­– Seven philanthropic individuals, businesses and/or organizations will be honored at the 2016 ABC Awards Applauding Brevard’s Champions on January 27, at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne.

 

Brevard Schools Foundation began the ABC Awards in 2012 as a way to celebrate teachers, employees, administrators, volunteers and business partners of the year that support the mission of BPS with outstanding contributions.  Foundation Awards of Distinction were added in 2014 to recognize those who have made a significant difference in the lives children with their private support.

 

“Our donors have had immeasurable influence on the students and programs of Brevard Public Schools and the ABC Awards give us chance to highlight their impact in a very visible way,” said Yvonne McGuire, Brevard Schools Foundation Board president.  “Their investment bolsters the school system, which makes the community stronger.  Without the support of these great people and organizations, we couldn’t be as successful.”

 

Foundation Awards of Distinction 2016 Honorees are:

Corporate Champion: The Boeing Company

Individual Champion: Bruce Crass

Family Champion: Heineman Foundation

Local Business Champion: The Viera Company

Take Stock in Children Champion: Balda Family Foundation

$1 Million Milestone: Harris Corporation

 

Harris Corporation’s cumulative giving surpassed the $1 million mark, which has helped Brevard Schools Foundation raise more than $40 million since 1987.  Harris’ legacy of giving has been strongly focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with several flagship initiatives bearing its name, such as Harris Super Science Saturdays, Harris Science Teacher Hall of Fame, Harris AP Science Saturday, Harris Administrative in-service and Harris Best of Show Science Fair Awards.
